As we close this year out, I want to share with you how one couple has taught all who have come in contact with them how to give, receive and support each other and those around them.
Betsy and Warren Talbot, Married With Luggage, decided last year, they wanted to travel around the world for a year. With that goal in mind, they sat down and drew up a game plan. And what a game plan it has been. They gave themselves two years to save for this goal and to divest themselves of material items they don’t and wouldn’t need. I urge you to read how they have done this at Married With Luggage. But let me say this, they have already saved up all of the money to be gone for 1 year and are now working on saving more so they can travel for 2+ years!!!!
But what does this have to do with giving, receiving and support?
This all came so clear to me at Betsy’s Reverse Birthday Party this past Wednesday. As I sat there and watched the goings on, I was struck by all that Betsy and Warren have given, received, and the support, both given and recieved.
Betsy decided for her 39th birthday that she would throw herself a party. But it would be a reverse one. Instead of receiving gifts, she pick 39 of her most precious, meaningful, and personal pieces.
Betsy gave us the chance to receive a part of her in the form of these personal items.
Each piece was tagged with the story on how she acquired it. We had to put our names on the back of the tag of whatever item we wanted. If two or more did put their name on the same piece, then there was a “style off.” Let me say that at times, those style offs did get a bit risque!
But more important and I’m sure everyone present will agree, we will smile and remember the story of our precious acquisition(s) each time we wear or use them. And Betsy knows her preicous pieces went to her friends who will cherish them. In one swoop, she gave and received!
As the evening slowly wound down, each of us had a different take on Betsy’s Reverse Birthday Party and a need to share this wonderful party with all of our readers. I urge you to follow our thoughts on this one-of-a-kind event.

Betsy, thank you so much for coming. It was a fun night, and I loved sharing it with you! You have written a brilliant recap of the evening. I hope more people try this – it will give you a much bigger emotional boost than any material gift you could receive!
